PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The City of Lebanon employed our firm to prepare
preliminary and final plans, specifications, and estimates for the improvement
of a 6,910 L.F. (1.31 mile) portion of Monroe Street. This City street is
classified as a collector and is located in a residential area. It serves to
carry local traffic to area schools, businesses and churches. The project is
funded with FHWA Surface Transportation Program (STP) Funds as administered by
the Illinois Department of Transportation. During construction, the entire road
was closed to thru traffic, but the project was phase-constructed to maintain
emergency vehicle access and allow entry to local homes. Approximately 2,100
L.F. of the project consisted of partial milling and asphalt resurfacing. The
remainder of the project included new storm sewer pipe and inlets, new concrete
integral curb and gutter, aggregate base course, asphalt surface course,
driveway repair, and partial concrete sidewalk. Numerous utility adjustments
were required to accommodate the improvement. Close coordination with City
officials was needed comply with budget constrictions, yet meet State and
Federal design standards for the project. Our firm was also retained to perform
construction services including staking, materials testing, construction
observation and contract administration.
