PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The St. Clair County Department of Roads and Bridges employed our firm to provide construction engineering services for the removal and replacement of an existing bridge carrying Press Road (TR 197) over Kinney Branch 2 miles east of Smithton, Illinois. The rural roadway project included a single span precast, prestressed concrete deck beam bridge with steel piling, removal of the existing bridge, channel excavation, roadway approach improvements, riprap and seeding. A hot-mix asphalt surface was applied to the bridge deck while the approach roadway consisted of an 8” aggregate base course with bituminous seal coat surfacing. Our firm performed construction engineering services including materials testing, construction observation and contract administration.
