Stevenson Drive Roadway Improvement Project
PROJECT NAME: Stevenson Drive Roadway Improvements
OWNER: City of Sparta
LOCATION: Sparta, Randolph County, Illinois
CONSTRUCTION COST: $480,000
YEAR COMPLETED: 2008 (Pending)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The City of Sparta employed our firm to prepare the
preliminary and final plans, specifications, and estimates for the improvement
of a 1,121 L.F. (0.21 mile) portion of Stevenson Drive. This City street is
classified as a collector and is located within an area containing both
residential and commercial development. It serves to carry local traffic to
homes, schools, parks, and businesses. The project is funded with Motor Fuel
Tax (MFT) Funds as administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
During construction, the entire road was closed to thru traffic, but the project
was phase-constructed to maintain emergency vehicle access and allow entry to
local homes and businesses. The project included new storm sewer pipe and
inlets, new concrete integral curb and gutter, lime-modified subgrade, sub-base
granular material, concrete pavement, driveway repair, and concrete sidewalk.
Close coordination with City officials was required as the project scope was
expanded during construction. Our firm was also retained to perform
construction services including staking, materials testing, construction
observation and contract administration.
